Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation: She's a Real Hero
In an effort to tell the courageous stories of Breast Cancer Survivors, we outfitted our real life heroes with superhuman costumes. Working closely with Fable, Director Tom Maher, and the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, Alice Blue took on the challenge of a full on location shoot, character/costume development, CGI, post-production and more to help bring these superheroes to life. It was a joy to contribute to an important campaign that puts the spotlight on the inspiring warriors that walk beside us each day.
The Making of a Super Hero
At Alice Blue, we love a good design challenge. We first designed each costume specific to the Real Hero and their unique story. The idea was to create a costume resembling the regular clothes of each hero, yet with a Superman movie-style look. The outfit of the warrior had to be strong and heroic, with a feminine touch. Everything was sculpted in ZBrush with much attention to each detail, including hand drawn scratches, natural folds, age and wear, for an organic and imperfect appearance. All to suggest that though our superhero had gone through difficult times, she survived and became even stronger.
Each Hero had her own environment created to highlight her armor, story and real life struggle with Breast Cancer. Once the elements were in place, we got our heroes moving in an extensive process that involved animation, simulation, visual fx, and composition with live action. Here we show take painstaking attention to each detail to ensure their vital story is told with the utmost care, strength and authenticity.
